Planting polka dot plants (Hypoestes phyllostachya) is one of the easiest ways to add color to your home.

They have a variety of leaf colors: white, pink, red. The color of each leaf will be decorated with green dots, which will make it more attractive.

This plant is appropriate to put on a coffee table, kitchen corner or desktop. Whatever the placement point, care must be taken to ensure that the plant remains fertile and the color is not dull.

1. Rinse regularly

Root rot is a common problem in ornamental plants. They can occur when the roots are left standing in water for a long time. Root rot can occur in polka dot plants.

If not watered properly, they can get root rot or dryness. Polka dot plants require regular watering. However, watering is only given when the top half-inch of soil is completely dry.

2. Place it on the east window.

Polka dot plants love bright, indirect sunlight. They cannot thrive in extreme conditions such as low light or long periods of direct sunlight.

The best place to plant this plant is near a window facing east or south. They can absorb as much sunlight as possible without being exposed to it for too long.

3. Fertilize Regularly

This plant, known as the glutton, requires regular fertilization during its growing season, between spring and fall.

Use an organic houseplant fertilizer once a month in warm climates. This should stimulate new growth as well as keep the plant well nourished.

4. Pay attention to room temperature and humidity levels

Hypoestes phyllostachya is native to Madagascar. Therefore, they prefer high temperature and humidity.

Temperatures above 21°C should be sufficient if the humidity level is around 50 percent, which is well above the average home humidity.

To solve this problem, consider using a humidifier in a room where there are peas, or spray the leaves from time to time. You can also place the potted plant on a tray filled with water and gravel to increase the humidity around the plant. Make sure the water doesn’t touch the bottom of the pot to prevent root rot.

5. Prune to be fertile

Polka dot plants grow easily. This condition occurs when the growing conditions of a plant are not correct, which affects its appearance. You will need to prune to make this plant a bit thicker. Cut or pinch off the top two leaves every week to encourage growth and also make the plant look fuller.

If you see flowers blooming, prune immediately. The flowers are beautiful, but the plant begins to die or hibernate after the end of the flowering period.
